About HB Build I

A multidisciplinary group of 16 international artists transformed a former brewery in Pankow, Berlin, into the HomeBase LAB – a year round art & research center dedicated to the exploration of the meaning of home and questioning the role of art in society.

This installation of HomeBase had its Open House event on the 1st and 2nd of October 2011 with open studios and ongoing events including: a presentation by Anat Litwin, the Artistic Director & Founder of the HomeBase Project, live music by Israeli musician and HomeBase artist-in-residence David Fire, and a special guest performance by German-Israeli Ladino duo “Tradicion y Modernidad,” featuring Yahli Toren & Tobias Rutger.

Our mission

The meaning of 'Home' has become ever more elusive and complex, especially in these times of financial uncertainty, rapid technological developments and extreme urban change. The HomeBase Project creates a unique platform for a multi-disciplinary artistic exploration of the notion of home as the foundation of humanity. It aims to foster a sense of interconnectedness in society through the arts, awaken social responsibility and integrate contemporary art into everyday urban living.
