About HB Build II

The HomeBase BUILD II program is an international Artist-in-Residence and research program, focused on the exploration of home, while building the HB LAB as a year round artistic home and research center.

Fourteen professional artists, social entrepreneurs, and team members have been selected to participate in this three month long program which began on December 7th and ends on March 10th. these artists are currently living at the HB LAB- a transformed historic brewery, located in Pankow, Berlin. They are working on individual, site-specific art projects in live-in studios whilst also engaging in creative communal living and in the HB BUILD educational program.

The HomeBase BUILD program is based on the desire and need to connect contemporary art and the everyday within a communal, creative, stimulating environment. Each artist participates as a creator, student, and teacher while they collectively generate content and self-direction.

The culmination of each artist’s work and the results of this communal project will be exhibited in our Open Studio event from March 3 to March 5, 2012.

Our mission

The meaning of 'Home' has become ever more elusive and complex, especially in these times of financial uncertainty, rapid technological developments and extreme urban change. The HomeBase Project creates a unique platform for a multi-disciplinary artistic exploration of the notion of home as the foundation of humanity. It aims to foster a sense of interconnectedness in society through the arts, awaken social responsibility and integrate contemporary art into everyday urban living.
