To pursue our goals, HomeBase situates its activity in the intersection of contemporary art and social entrepreneurship and utilizes two unique models to explore the meaning of home – A six week traveling HomeBase structure, titled HomeBase Nomad, and a three months residency in development of a a year round home and headquarters for HomeBase in Berlin titled HomeBase LAB.
HB NOMADIC
Each year HomeBase Nomad relocates to new international cities, inhabiting vacant spaces in neighborhoods undergoing change with a group of international artists. Through a site-specific creative process of exploration, an artist-in-residence program, an educational program, and a public cultural program, HomeBase transforms the sites into interactive cultural platforms. It’s program inspires creativity and enriches a deep cultural and social dialog among artists and the public while revitalizes under-served neighborhoods in the urban setting, delivering insights also for the context of city development and public policy.
HB LAB
The HomeBase LAB functions as the base for HomeBase. It is a year round residency and research program exploring the notion of Home as the foundation of humanity, while experimenting in meaningful everyday urban life.
The HB LAB is a home to the HomeBase team and the HomeBase BUILD artists. The facilities include 16 live-in art studios, a shared kitchen, a large salon, the HB stage for performances, an eco-garden and green house, a think tank and conference room, a library, and the Ignatz Bier Microbrewery.
The Goal of the HB LAB is to foster interconnectedness in society through the arts, inspire artists as activist, and serve our surrounding in new ways.
