Shelley Etkin

born 1989, Boston, MA USA, currently based in Berlin and Helsinki

Shelley Etkin is an Israeli-American transdisciplinary artist, working in-between realms of dance, performance, ecology, curation, and community organizing.

She holds a B.A. in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies with a concentration in Arts Activism. Currently, she is pursuing an M.A. in Ecology & Contemporary Performance at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts in Helsinki.

Shelley’s artistic research explores ecofeminism, ecosomatics, and queer methodologies. Shelley is an improviser, experimenting in practices of sensitized questioning, embodied imagination, perception, and other witchcrafts. She works independently and collaboratively in diverse environments ranging from urban to rural, in private nooks, studios, stages, and public spaces.

Shelley is semi-nomadically based between Berlin and Helsinki, migrating through California, Massachusetts, and Israel. She works closely with rural performance center Ponderosa, as gardener, organizer, and host. Current collaborations include COVEN Berlin collective, feminist fake band duo Vagittarius Rising, and garden projects in Germany and Finland.
